This is one of my favourite portraits. The day was cold, cloudy, wet and windy last winter and we were were at the Meadow Bank winery on the road between Richmond and Hobart. There was a large open fire behind the two ladies which cast a warm glow onto the back wall and all the walls and ceiling were lined with timber adding to the warmth and cosy feeling in such surroundings. I love taking portrait shots of two people who clearly have a close connection and are warmly interacting with each other. There was a large wall of windows to the right and towards the front of the little girl where the natural light was cast on to her face. I didn’t use any fill flash in this photo just the light from the fire and through the windows. It doesn’t matter were you are there are always good photo opportunities to be found and if you can capture the personality and mood of the subject then the photo will speak for itself.
