Boeing 747 rapid takeoff

April 24, 2011 By Peter

Boeing 747 rapid takeoffTo see a large aircraft like the Boeing 747 shown here doing a rapid ascent is truly an awesome sight to behold.

The roar of all 4 engines on full power and empty aircraft makes for a very loud and short takeoff. You can see the cloud of debris kicked up by the 4 engines as the over 240,000lbf of thrust pushes over 200 tonnes rapidly into the air.

The Qantas 747 shown here was at Avalon in March for maintenance and was empty on takeoff after servicing and returning to service. Unfortunately, it returned 30 minutes later with a minor maintenance problem.
