The Lockheed Super Constellation is by all means an impressive aircraft. With the loud roar of four 18 cylinder radial engines, flames coming out of the exhaust ports racing down the runway at Avalon makes for an awesome sight.
There were over 800 Constellations, affectionately called “Connie”, produced for Military use and also as a civilian airliner.
There are a number of Constellations still flying and the one at the Avalon 2011 Airshow (VH-EAG) was originally produced for the United States Air Force. The aircraft was retired from use in March 1977 after 22 years of flying and is now based at the Illawarra Regional Airport near Wollongong and is mainly used for airshow displays.
I have uploaded some images from the show which are available for viewing and purchase. More aircraft will be uploaded over the next few weeks.
